Today's story begins with God creating the heavens and the earth. When God spoke His words always came true. God said, "I command light to shine!" And light started shinning. God spoke again and made the sky and the dry land. God said, "I command the earth to produce all kinds of plants, including fruit trees and grain. And that's what happened. God then spoke again and the sun moon and stars appeared in the sky. Then "God said, "I command the ocean to be full of living creatures, and I command birds to fly above the earth. Every time God finished making something he looked at it and saw that it was good. God spoke again and commanded the earth to give life to all kinds of animals. After everything else was made God said "Now we will make humans and they will be like us." So God took a handful of soil and made a man. God breathed life into the man and the man started breathing. God made a garden in a place called Eden and he put the man whom he named Adam in the garden. God told Adam that he could eat the fruit from any tree in the garden except the one tree that had the power to let him know the difference between right and wrong. God told Adam that if he ate from the tree he would die. Then God said it was not good for Adam to be alone so he made a woman to be with Adam. This story is from the book of Genesis, chapters 1 and 2. |
